Empowering Juneway Electronics' Data-Driven Manufacturing Transformation with WISE-Edge

The global manufacturing industry is actively pursuing smart transformation, and leading electronic component manufacturer Juneway Electronics is no exception. To bolster automated and smart equipment maintenance, promote statistical process control (SPC), and enhance management efficiency, Juneway Electronics adopted Advantech’s WISE-Edge software solutions—using IoTSuite as its industrial IoT platform for data integration and analytics, and IoT Edge for equipment networking and edge computing.

Operations Continue to Grow Even as Traditional Production Models Hit Bottlenecks

Since its establishment in 2014, Juneway Electronics has focused on the design, research and development, manufacturing, and sales of precision current-sensing resistors and fuses. Its products are widely used in smartphones, laptops, wearable devices, home appliances, security surveillance, and power tools, and the company maintains a leading position in the global market.

Dr. Werdna Wei, CIO & Business Transformation Lead at Juneway Electronics, pointed out that as the company continued to grow, its original production management and equipment maintenance model faced multiple challenges, including untimely data updates, insufficient accuracy in data collection, imprecise analytics tools, and low efficiency in equipment inspections. These issues hindered the continuous optimization of production efficiency, product yield, and equipment management in its factory.

To overcome the abovementioned bottlenecks and continue its worldwide business growth, Juneway Electronics identified cross-border collaboration and big data management as top priorities for its digital transformation strategy. “We evaluated multiple solution providers at home and abroad, and Advantech was the only partner capable of fulfilling our needs in both technology and services,” said Dr. Wei. 

Advantech not only offered an industrial IoT platform capable of handling massive amounts of heterogeneous data but also boasted a worldwide network of technical and service hubs. This enabled Juneway Electronics to address its cross-border transformation needs more effectively, ensuring a steady path toward smart transformation and accelerating manufacturing upgrades.

Even more importantly, Advantech’s service efficiency exceeded expectations. In just four months, Juneway Electronics successfully deployed Advantech’s WISE-Edge IoTSuite and IoT Edge solutions, which automatically collect and consolidate equipment data and production information from the shop floor while also enabling the development of diverse data application models. This, in turn, accelerated the establishment of data-driven decision-making processes, allowing the company to continuously optimize production workflows, improve product quality, and ensure equipment stability and efficiency—ultimately enhancing factory resilience and overall competitiveness.

Advantech WISE-Edge Powers Two Major Data Applications, Paving the Way for Smart Manufacturing

For Juneway Electronics, a successful transformation had to begin with automating data collection. Only through real-time, accurate, and continuous data acquisition could a solid foundation be established for smart manufacturing transformation. To this end, Juneway Electronics has used IoT Edge to collect real-time data from production equipment such as laser trimming machines, ovens, automatic winding-and-labeling machines, and PLCs. After basic processing, such as data format conversion, the information is consolidated into a unified cloud database. These data assets provide the essential foundation for future yield analysis, quality control, and equipment maintenance decisions. Subsequently, leveraging IoTSuite’s data integration and analysis tool DataInsight, together with the visualization tool Dashboard, the company initiated two major data applications.

Data Application 1 — SPC for Yield Improvement

The first initiative was to establish an SPC mechanism to enable real-time analysis and monitoring, thereby improving product yield. Juneway Electronics connected 86 laser repair machines on the shop floor through IoT Edge and synchronized their data with the IoTSuite platform, processing more than 58 million data entries daily in real time and accumulating over 1 billion historical records since implementation. Using IoTSuite’s visualization tools, this data was transformed into a variety of visual charts—such as resistance distribution histograms and process box plots—that provided instant visibility into the latest production line status. This allowed managers to detect abnormal trends early, ensuring product yield and quality remained stable.

Since Juneway Electronics produces hundreds of millions of units daily, real-time monitoring and adjustment of production lines is a critical factor in maintaining product yield. Dr. Wei explained that Advantech’s solutions enabled the company’s production management to shift from post-event analysis to real-time monitoring. Once the system detects abnormal yield rates or offline equipment, it automatically pushes alert notifications to relevant managers, who can then take immediate corrective actions—such as adjusting trimming parameters—to effectively enhance process stability while improving yield and product quality.

In addition, managers can perform in-depth analyses to better understand process anomalies and identify opportunities for optimization. For example, by reviewing resistance distribution across different intervals and processes, they can optimize trimming parameters and reduce trimming volume. Alternatively, by analyzing production data from different perspectives, such as time, machine, or work order, managers can quickly compare process performance across stages, pinpoint the sources of abnormal deviations, and accelerate both problem resolution and decision-making.

Data Application 2 — Maintenance & Operation Management for Equipment Availability

The second application focused on optimizing equipment maintenance and management processes. In the past, Juneway Electronics relied heavily on paper records and manual judgment for equipment maintenance, repairs, and inspections. These procedures were cumbersome and difficult to track. It therefore decided to adopt the IoTSuite platform to build a total productive maintenance (TPM) inspection system and mobile app. All related records can now be synchronized to the cloud in real time. This not only eliminates manual transcription, enabling paperless and standardized inspection workflows, but also allows for rapid responses to maintenance and repair needs—significantly improving maintenance efficiency and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) while ensuring stability and reliability throughout the equipment lifecycle.

More specifically, Juneway Electronics established an intelligent equipment management closed loop through Advantech’s TPM solution of preventive maintenance, problem detection, problem resolution. The system automatically evaluates maintenance schedules based on equipment parameters and usage, triggering work orders as needed. When an equipment anomaly occurs, the system not only auto-reports the issue but also generates and dispatches maintenance orders simultaneously. Maintenance staff receive tasks via the mobile app, allowing them to immediately begin repair or maintenance operations. Upon completion, they can submit updates through the app for managers to confirm in real time. This ensures that equipment consistently maintains stable, safe, and efficient performance throughout its entire lifecycle—from deployment to decommissioning.

By leveraging Advantech’s WISE-Edge to drive its manufacturing transformation, Juneway Electronics has successfully built a digital management framework covering data collection, process monitoring, and equipment maintenance and operation.
